Tankless vs Traditional Water Heaters

The short answer

There's no single best choice — it depends on your home, your hot-water habits, and your fuel supply.

Traditional tank heaters

Lower up-front cost, simple to service, and work with any fuel type. They keep a reserve of hot water ready, but can run out during heavy use and waste energy maintaining temperature.

Tankless water heaters

Higher up-front cost, but they deliver endless hot water and typically lower energy bills. They're space-efficient and last longer than tanks. For mountain homes that sit empty between visits, a tankless unit doesn't waste energy heating water nobody's using.

Our recommendation

For full-time homes with high demand, a properly-sized tank works great. For cabins, second homes, and homes looking to cut energy costs, tankless is often the better long-term bet.
