How Deep Should Water Lines Be Buried?
In Pocahontas County, the frost line determines how deep your water lines need to be. Burying too shallow is the #1 cause of frozen lines.

In our region, the frost line typically reaches 30–36 inches. Water lines should be buried below that depth — we recommend 36 inches minimum, deeper in exposed areas.
Why depth matters
A line buried at 12 inches will freeze every hard winter. A line at 36 inches stays below the frost line and runs year-round. This is the single biggest difference between a water line that lasts decades and one that fails every January.
